  • "KTVU is out with its report on its ratings in January, and perhaps the biggest headline doesn't deal with TV viewership at all. Channel 2 reports that pageviews for Mobile KTVU.com have increased by more than 300% to 1.6 million in January compared to the same month last year."
  • Good list of tips. Especially with integrating different types of content beyond text, and taking it easy on apps & boxes.
  • "Bottom line for the long term: even if the judge sends the settlement back, and even if the parties agree to deadlines as short as the deadlines for this presumably ill-fated revision, there is no resolution in sight for the litigation. Whether the case is tried or the settlement discussions continue, the legal end point will not be the trial judgment or settlement approval issued by the district court judge. The end point will be the disposition of the final appeal from that district court judgment or approved settlement, and that disposition is years away.

"It's hard to imagine what relevance the final legal disposition would have then, as public and private innovators are not sitting on their hands, waiting for the judge to sort this out."

  • "Power is not something limited to power-hungry individuals or organizations; it is part of every social interaction where people have the capacity to influence one another's states, which is really every moment of life. Claims that power is simply a product of male biology miss the degree to which women have obtained and wielded power in many social situations. In fact, studies I've conducted find that people grant power to women as readily as men, and in informal social hierarchies, women achieve similar levels of power as men.

"So power is not something we should (or can) avoid, nor is it something that necessarily involves domination and submission. We are negotiating power every waking instant of our social lives (and in our dreams as well, Freud argued). When we seek equality, we are seeking an effective balance of power, not the absence of power. We use it to win consent and social cohesion, not just compliance. To be human is to be immersed in power dynamics."

  • "iPublic is for those who share a vision for digital democracy. Transparency, accountability and citizen engagement leads to better government. Today's public square is founded upon government-to-government and government-to-citizen information sharing, participation and collaboration.

"At iPublic you will find, and are encouraged to contribute to, a free body of knowledge about policies, processes and technologies that help to achieve this vision."
