The Internet is a quick way of finding out the latest news. And you don't have to subscribe per se, unless it's one of those media groups that require such.

Collaboration is important and I think that traditional media could do something about it. They could spearhead endeavors in bringing the truth to the public. And it so happens that the public could access the internet rather than printed materials.

Collaborations are already happening online, even between direct competitors. Viddy Cincinatti.com, a collaboration among two newspapers, a television station, and several "community" blogs (including the infamous "Grandma in Iraq" which wasn't clearly advertised as the writings of a civilian PR official for the Army.) The downside is that this is still America, and there's a free market for news, and some of the independent print and online publications (the Beacon can be crowded out by this juggernaut.

So I think it might be a more worthy exposition to do a case study of a site like this, and examine its journalistic and business benefits.

I, for one, am glad I live in one of the few remaining American cities with two newspapers-- plus an alternative weekly.
