I tried and like Christian's search plugin, but MW's tip is even better. No clicking - fast as fast!

I have belatedly discovered the list of keyboard shortcuts in FF online help. For MW's tip we want :
Select Location Bar: Alt+D / F6 / Ctrl+L
At least those are the keys on Intel Linux - no doubt the shortcuts on a Powerbook are different.

Great tips Amy and MW - thanks. I will go get Christian's plugin.

Amy, did you notice that the Furl toolbar extension is not really a toolbar - just a couple of buttons to drag onto your existing toolbar. ? They don't really take up extra space unless you have _lots_ of buttons already.

MW, to get to the FF search bar really fast, use ctrl-K (I don't know how to select the engine with the keyboard yet.)

Best, David

Personally, I don't really like the search toolbar. I don't want to click a separate window, choose the right engine and so forth. Luckily, Firefox allows me to add a quick search for the same thing, so I can just type "furl [search term(s)]" in my address bar instead. Here's how:

1. Go to the address http://www.furl.net/search?keyword=%s&src=1 (like Amy, I just want to search my own archive, if you want to search all of furl, just omit the "&src=1" at the end.

2. Bookmark the link, and place it where you want it. I use the Quick Links folder already provided with Firefox.

3. Right click the bookmark, choose "Properties" and then add "furl" in the keyword field.

4. Done! Try the results by typing in "furl [something]" in the address bar. Good luck!

I'm happy that you like my search plugin!

Moreover, I want to encourage everyone to write search plugins. It's very easy and well documented on the mozdev website.
