(UPDATE: Del.icio.us is back up , as of 4:15 MST. Yay!)
Over the weekend my favorite social bookmarking service, Del.icio.us, was struck by a power outage that wreaked havoc on its systems. At the moment the whole site is down while they rebuild it…
Details are on the del.icio.us blog. According to this Dec. 18 posting, “Still waiting for the last remaining index to build. No data has been lost – we just need to fix the tables so the databases can find things quickly. This appears to be largely due to a RAID failure after our power outage earlier in the week – one of the indexes became corrupted and crashed the master database; for some reason the slaves replicated bad data from the master and then ended up crashing infinitely.”
Then again, the paranoid side of my personality has to wonder… This wouldn’t have anything to do with Yahoo’s Dec. 9 purchase of Del.icio.us, would it? I mean, this can’t be a cover for some major system overhaul, right?
Nah….. Probably just a coincidence.
Still, I hope one benefit of the Yahoo purchase is greater hardware redundancy. Sounds like it’s a tech nightmare over there right now.
