My First Podcast Interview

This morning, the eminently cool podcaster Kris Smith interviewed me for his show Croncast. Check it out: Croncast - Amy and her friend Kris Ep. 1. (Go there and right-click on the link for the MP3 file. That page also includes the show notes.)

We continue our discussion about text vs. audio editing that began with my Dec. 14 pod people article and its Dec. 15 followup.

Kris and I also recorded one more show. Kris will post the first of these, a discussion (about women and podcasting, and podcasting and e-learning) on Tuesday Dec. 21. I’ll be sure to announce that here when it’s up.

UPDATE Dec. 21: It’s up!

Now here are a few things I meant to say in the interview but forgot because I’m such a podcasting novice…

First of all, I’d like to thank Kris profusely for his interest, generosity, mentoring, and kindness. I didn’t do that on the show and really should have. I’ve already learned a great deal from him, and I’m sure I’ll learn much more. I admire his work and skill, and recommend his podcast heartily. Please subscribe to his show and tell your friends.

Second, right at the beginning I meant to say that my original pod people article took me a long time to write. I got the idea for it in mid-October, started writing it in November, and just couldn’t say what I meant to say. Finally around 2;30 am on Dec. 14 I woke up with a sense of clear insight, got up, and wrote it. I rarely mull over articles so long, but this one took me awhile because it felt so important. The more I learn about and think about podcasting, the more I think it will profoundly affect media and communication over time. I’ll blog more about that later. But if you haven’t yet started listening to podcasts, you really should – it’ll help you understand many changes to come.

Third, in my rambling answer to Kris’ question about what exactly I do for a living, I forgot to mention that I have been inspired by Jeremy Wright’s Inside Blogging example to become a professional blogger (for hire) – that is, to create content for blogs published by organizations. More about that later.

OK, enough text. Go listen to the show. Enjoy.
