I am holding a big part of the net’s future in the palm of my hand. Literally.
This blog has been quiet because I’ve been spending a few days visiting family and concentrating on a couple of client projects. (Sorry folks, but occasionally I have to realign my blogging to accommodate life.) While I’m here, I decided to finally treat myself to a portable MP3 player: the MPIO FL300, a basic model just a bit smaller than a C battery. The model doesn’t matter though. What does matter is that I can now download and easily listen to podcasts.
What’s a podcast?
Basically, a podcast is nothing more than an audio file saved in MP3 format that people can save to the web or transmit via webfeed as an enclosure. Wired News covered the basics back on Oct. 8. I’ll explain a bit more about the technology later, and a lot about the content possibilities. However, if you’re itching to know more right now here’s a pretty good primer from Engadget. Remember, you don’t have to buy an expensive and trendy Apple iPod to listen to podcasts. You can even listen to them on your computer, with software you have or free downloads.
You’ll definitely be “hearing” more from me on this later. Stay tuned…
*** UPDATE OCT. 29: I’ve explained this more fully. See: What is podcasting, and why should you care?
