How Do You Use Furl?

(UPDATE, Apr. 20, 2005: Furl and Del.icio.us: Almost Perfect Together)

Looks like a lot of people are intrigued by b>, the free online service (chased by LookSmart) which allows you to save web pages into your own private online library, and share your list of pages in various ways.

One of the all-time most popular articles I’ve published in CONTENTIOUS is 10 Cool Things to Do with Furl. I’m curious – has anyone followed up on these ideas? How did that work out? Also, what other creative uses have you found for Furl? How are you using it?

  1. I may have posted this twice. Not sure yet. Apologies if it’s so.
    I am enjoying Furl without knowing what del.i.cio.us. is or does. Furl is easy. It’s relatively uncluttered. I am using it to organise narratives that will be accesible to other researchers. It is my collection of footnotes and sources, to be fleshed out with text at a later date. On that basis it would be nice to see organising tools: a method of creating/importing a classification scheme, a method of sequencing links. A blog inverted.

    Given that this is much the same as items 4, 7, 9 & 10, and that it’s been a few weeks since the post, I’m wondering if there are any tools that can assist the process I’ve described.

  2. One way I use Furl is to promote things I think would be useful to others, particularly free stuf, such as software.

    I’ve come across many interesting sites by checking out recent Furls or hot Furls and I want to return the favour.

    My latest promtion bug is the Dvorak keyboard layout, an ergonomic alternative to qwerty, which I’m also blogging on.

  3. I use Furl for the cream of surfing. I don’t tend to put everything there, but when I find something that is both interesting and has depth I furl it.
    I also like the “my recommendations” (under “my archive”) ~ if I ever have some free surfing time I always start there, its a great springboard.
    For general breadcrumbs I use http://www.ikeepbookmarks.com which is a kind of online Favorites (which is available at home or at Work).

  4. Hi, I use Furl basically to organize the glossaries I find online. I created some categories,
    like medicine, ICT, advertising etc…, under which I store the different links. What I need
    now is a good tool to take notes while I’m surfing. Any suggestion? :-) In the past I used
    the wondeful My e-notes, but it doesn’t work under IE6.
