OK, it’s finally happening – I’m finally freeing CONTENTIOUS from the numerous deficiencies of Movable Type blogging software, and moving this blog over to a new server.
(NOTE Thurs. Aug. 19: Due to some server shuffling last night, my site was temporarily down. Sorry for the inconvenience. Obviously, it’s fixed now. I love technology.)
…Well, rather, my husband/sysadmin Tom Vilot is handling all of that stuff for me. I’m a content pro, not a genuine computer geek. I’m simply not adept at server-side gyrations, but Tom’s a whiz. He just hasn’t had much time over the last few months to take on this task, but now it’s finally happening. Thanks, Tom!
The big advantage of this switch is that I will be able to turn comments back on for this blog. I’ve missed that feature badly, as have many CONTENTIOUS readers. It just doesn’t feel like a real blog to me unless there’s an ongoing, visible conversation via comments.
During the first few days of this switch, it’s possible that there might be some kinks to work out (broken links, weird page layout, etc.). Please report to me any problems you experience, since you might notice something I’ve missed.
More about this change…
I will be switching CONTENTIOUS from Movable Type to WordPress blogging software. I’ve been playing with WordPress, and it looks pretty cool. I think it’ll handle everything I need without causing me too many headaches after I climb the intial learning curve.
Most importantly, WordPress offers built-in, simple, and effective comment spam protection – not some clumsy, geeky, complicated server-side plugin (like MT Blacklist).
The other close blogging-software contender was b2evolution. However, I chose WordPress mainly because there is so much information available for this particular migration path. There’s even a WordPress Wiki. When something goes screwy (and something always goes screwy with technology), I want to immediate access to lots of advice and support.
Thanks for your patience. Keep your fingers crossed!
